Design
The well-known symmetrical lens design was devised by Dr. Paul Rudolph at Carl Zeiss in 1896. The Planar has the most successful camera lens design ever created, and still the most imitated. All lenses feature ZEISS T * ® anti-reflection coating. The incredible reduction of scattered light is achieved thanks to the combination of several perfectly harmonized measures. In addition to the ZEISS T * treatment, all edges of the lenses have a lacquered black color achieved by a complex manual process. To avoid reflections, light traps have been integrated into the mechanical components and specially designed surfaces. Each focal length has its own optical design, thanks to the use of special glasses that allow visualization of the anomalous partial dispersion. In this way, halos are possible to an absolute minimum in the case of subjects with high contrast edges.
