Patented anamorphic design
Laowa Proteus is composed of anamorphic and spherical groups, which simultaneously offer modern image sharpness and vintage anamorphic features, such as elliptical bokeh and characteristic flares.

Constant anamorphic compression ratio
Both the anamorphic and spherical groups are fixed, To achieve focus, a variable front spherical glass is added.
A similar optical design is used in the Vantage Hawks, Cooke Anamorphic and Atlas Orion.
With a 2X compression ratio, you will have 2.66:1 on a 4:3 sensor and 2.4:1 on a 6:5 sensor after decompression.
This allows you to crop an aspect ratio of 2.39:1, offering an ultra-widescreen cinematic look that is highly sought after by the film industry.
The compression ratio remains constant at any focusing distance to avoid anamorphic distortion.

Ultra bright aperture
Thanks to the bright aperture of T2, Proteus allows filmmakers to shoot in low light conditions.
It also creates a shallow depth of field with a waterfall-like transition to out of focus.

Crystalline clarity

Short minimum focusing distance
Able to focus as close as 55cm (21.6") from the object.

Bokeh effect
In the out-of-focus area, an elliptical bokeh is produced, a typical characteristic of anamorphic lenses which gives a strong cinematic appearance.
The bokeh in the 2X compression ratio is noticeably thinner and longer.

Flare color options
The Proteus range, like the Nanomorph range, is available in three different flare colours, suitable for different film genres: the classic sci-fi blue, the warm and elegant amber and the neutral silver.
The flare of the silver version changes color depending on the light source.
Flare colors are indicated on each lens body under the focal length.

Sensor Cover
With s35+ format coverage, Laowa Proteus supports the Alexa 35 sensor in 2.39:1 ratio and the Red V-Raptor sensor in 7K 6:5 ANA.
With the 1.4X full frame adapter, Proteus is able to cover the full frame sensor with amazing sharpness and image quality.
