Excellent contrast at high spatial frequencies offers superb resolution even at F2.8. 2 precision XA elements, 2 ED glass elements, 2 Super ED elements and a floating mechanism control chromatic aberration, astigmatism, distortion and coma at each zoom and aperture setting. Nano AR II coating reduces flare and ghosting.

Extraordinary G Master bokeh effect

Beautiful bokeh at F2.8 across the zoom range, available thanks to advanced optical design and new 11-blade aperture unit, is enhanced by precise control of spherical aberration in design and production. Two XA elements with 0.01 micron precision eliminate the onion effect. The minimum focus distance is 0.21m at 24mm and 0.30m at 70mm, with a maximum magnification of 0.32x.

It is also 16mm shorter and about 18% less bulky. Incredible portability and mobility make it ideal for photos and videos in various professional and amateur situations.

Fast and accurate AF and exceptional response

4 Sony original XD linear motors, floating focus mechanism and advanced control offer high-precision AF and zoom tracking performance 2 times higher than the previous model. With a compatible camera, it can reach 30 fps. The new aperture unit also contributes to high speed, with full AF tracking performance even for small aperture shots.

Refined video features for content creators

State-of-the-art lens construction reduces unwanted image shifts and angle of view variations to deliver smooth, expressive video. XD linear motors enhance AF and tracking performance by delivering exceptional detail through high frame rate recording. Independent focus and aperture rings are available, and with linear response MF, manual focusing is direct and linear.

The new dust and moisture resistant design6 offers extra reliability in demanding conditions and the fluorine coating keeps the front element clean. The supplied lens hood offers a special aperture for the use of circular polarizing and variable ND filters (optional).
