Electric interface in mechanical shoe attachment allows a camera to communicate with an attached accessory

The SMAD-P3 Multi Interface Shoe (MI Shoe) has an electric interface in its mechanical attachment allowing a camcorder, such as the PXW-X180 and XDCAM camcorders, or interchangeable lens digital cameras, such as the a7, a7R and a99, to communicate with an attached accessory. Accessories attached to the MI Shoe can be controlled by the camera. Using an MI Shoe connection, the audio signal from a UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 wireless microphone package can be input from the wireless microphone receiver to the camera without an XLR cable. The power can be supplied from the camera to the receiver and a battery is not required for the receiver operation. So, for example, if the HVL-LBPC video light is attached to the MI Shoe, video light power can be switched on and off from the camcorder. The mechanical shape of MI Shoe has a compatibility with conventional cold shoe, and a conventional cold shoe accessory can be also attached to the MI shoe terminal.

No need for separate XLR cable
Using an MI Shoe connection, the audio signal from a UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 wireless microphone package can be input from the wireless microphone receiver to the camera without an XLR cable.
Power can be supplied by camera
Power can be switched on and off from the camera/camcorder.
Compatibility with cold shoe accessories
Conventional cold shoe accessories can be also attached to the MI shoe terminal.
