The Multi-terminal to LANCE controller serves as an interface converter bridging Sony's latest and previous control protocols.
This device enables controllers based on the LANC protocol to interfae with many of the latest caeras that only have a Multi-Terminal port.
Users can now operate various camera functions through any LANC remote controller, regardless of its age.
The MULTI-CRL unit operates in two modes:
MODE 1 (default): For professional/prosumer cameras with a free HDMI output, like the A7, FX3, FX30, etc.
MODE 2: For older/consumer cameras normally with a restricted HDMI output, like the A6300, A6400, A6500, etc.
This mode enables HDMI output while maintaining REC/PHOTO and ZOOM controls through a LANC device connected to the Multi-Terminal port.
To switch between the two modes (if you encounter a black screen with audio only on the HDMI output):
- Using SONY GRIP from FS5 or FS7 camera model > Long press F6 for > 6 seconds
- Using OTHER LANC REMOTE > power up the device while simultaneously holding the REC button of the connected LANC remote (not on the camera) for > 6 seconds.
The controller allows remote operation of the following functions, depending on the specific models of the controller, camera, and lens:
> Recording control (start/stop in video mode)
> Photo capture (in photo mode)
> Zoom control (up to 8 speed steps)
> AF/M focus selection
> Push AF
> S&Q/Normal mode selection
> Manual Iris control
> Automatic Exposure Lock AEL toggle
> Auto Iris Offset value selection
> ISO value selection
> Shutter value selection
> WB value selection
> Reversing internal/external zoom moter direction
> TILTA N&M lens motor control - Auto-detecting between external Tilta and internal lens motors (Requires optional cables)
The MULTI-CRL unit is specifically designed for use with Sony FS5 and FS7 camera grips, enabling full funcrionality with various DSLR camera brands/models.
When used with these specific grips, all the listed functions are available.
Otherwise, the extent of controllable functions depends on the specific LANC remote controller model and its capabilities.
With the latest professional DSLRs like the FX3, FX30, and A7 Mk3/4/5, which have both USB-C control ports and Multi Terminal-Micro USB, it is possible to use an external RCP (Remote Control Panel) system to distribute controls between the camera operator and a remote control location, typically an OB van for television production or a similar set up.
The MULTI-CRL unit is designed to work in conjunction with the CYANVIEW RCP kit, which can operate via the 4G LTE network or point-to-point using RF modems.
This setup enables remote control of all camera parameters by mounting a RIO unit on the camera, connected through a specific cable to the USB-C port.
Meanwhile, the RCP in the OB van or another remote location is managed by a control operator/technician.
This configuration transforms the above DSLR cameras into a full broadcast camera chain, meeting broadcasting requirements.
* To use the MULTI-CRL in this configuration, it must be switched to MODE 2 (not the default selection).
Depending on the type of Remote Control LANC device you own, this mode can be activated as follows:
- For SONY GRIP from FS5 or FS7 camera models: Long press F6 or > 6 seconds.
- For ALL OTHER LANC REMOTES: Power up the device while simultaneously pressing the REC button of the connected LANC remote (not on the camera) for > 6 seconds.
This setup allows the operator to control only the REC, ZOOM, and AF PUSH (with AF lenses) functions via the LANC control, leaving the control of all other parameters directl to the remotely connected RCP.
The list of parameters controllable by the RCP depends on the camera brand/model/firmware, as well as updates to the CYANVIEW RCP kit and camera compatibilities.
